What to Expect and FAQ

When we arrive at your site, you will be asked to sign for the delivery first. This includes a damage waiver. We will place the truck as close as possible to where you need to conduct the pour. [Safety] link to page is a consideration here, so be mindful of overhead wires or ground conditions that could get the truck stuck. It will take a couple of minutes to get the mixer ready to start once the truck is in position. About the same as a traditional drum truck. Here are a few of the more common questions we get:

  • How much can you deliver?

Our trucks are 9 yard mixers and we can deliver any amount up to that in a single trip. The smallest order we take is 1 yard, which is 81 square feet of flat work at 4 inches deep. If you need more than one truck, we can accommodate that most of the time.

  • How much clean up do you need?

Very little. Because we mix as we go, there’s very little mess and almost no waste. We simply need to hose off the chutes and auger at the end. We can easily do this in a wheelbarrow or washout bag. We absolutely cannot washout into a storm drain.

  • Do you provide a wheelbarrow or washout bag?

We do not provide a wheelbarrow. We do not carry one with us. Washout bags are available for $35, and are yours to keep after we clean up.

  • You really mix it all right there?

Yes. Well, the driver operates a machine that mixes it right there. We don’t show up and start mixing it all by hand. And, yes, people really do ask this!

  • How fast does it mix?

It’s quick. All our trucks are from the same manufacturer, but we have different configurations. All go from separate ingredients to concrete in about 6 seconds. The overall rate is 1 yard every 1-2 minutes, depending on which truck we’re using.

  • How long does it take to do a pour?

It depends. Pushing wheelbarrows to the back yard takes longer than direct pouring out of the truck. We allow 15 minutes per yard, with a 1 hour minimum to off load. After that, truck time charges may apply. We’re not trying to punish anybody with this. There is another crew somewhere, waiting for that truck. We need everyone to be properly prepared and ready to pour when the truck shows up.

  • Do you place and or finish the concrete?

No. We are a material supplier. Our goal is to provide high-quality concrete for contractors in the area, not compete with them. We do not dig, form, place, or finish. We recommend hiring a professional contractor to do all that work. Pouring a concrete slab can be a satisfying DIY project, but it is labor-intensive, and finishing the slab is a skilled process.

  • What is that sound?

During operation, there are pneumatic vibrators that shake the bins. It keeps the aggregate and cement feeding steadily. These vibrators make a distinct sound. They go off at regular intervals while mixing and we count the hits to keep track of how much is going on the ground or in your wheelbarrow.

  • Are there any standards or requirements your concrete has to meet?

Is it real concrete or just Quickrete? Absolutely! The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) and its various departments: The Concrete Plant Manufacturers Bureau (CPMB), Truck Mixer Manufactures Bureau (TMMB) and Volumetric Mixer Manufacturers Bureau (VMMB); set standards for accuracy and consistency of material produced and delivered. Standard specifications are also laid out by ASTM C 685/C 685M-17 and ACI 304.6R-09. All our trucks are independently certified to be in compliance with these codes at manufacture.

  • I’m only doing a little bit. Can’t I just use bags?

If you only need a very small amount, like a mailbox or a couple fence posts, bags can be a better option. It takes 42, 80 pound bags or 56, 60 pound bags to make 1 cubic yard. You will have to load them onto the cart at the store, then into your truck and finally off-load at your site; all before you start mixing. You can save a little money on the cost of the bags, but the time, labor and mess of mixing it by hand usually costs much more.

Upon completion of the pour, we will wash out on-site. You need to think about this beforehand. It does not need much, but it needs to be done. You will be charged based on how much material we make. You can pay the driver with cash, check, Visa, or Mastercard. Remember, we accept cash, but our drivers do not carry cash to make change. They are very busy guys, so don’t ask them to wait while you “run to the store.” Please have appropriate small bills if you intend to pay with cash.
